Fairly big old antique pine wood chest or blanket box made around 1900 probably. It was originally made as a travelling carpenter's tool trunk and would have had a fitted interior but that's mostly gone now. Dovetailed corners, bevelled plinth all around the base. Pleated ends on the top in mahogany. Metal handle each end. The condition is pretty good structurally: it's solid and sound; some slight old rot from a damp floor on the underside but nothing structural; all dry now. The lock has no key and was locked shut; it had to be prised open and the lock plate is still in the lock. Could remove the lock entirely but you may wish to have a key made. It doesn't affect the use of the lid. Cosmetically there are lots of marks, dings and scratches etc from a long working life. We've stripped off the original thick black paint and red primer and waxed it; there are various remnants of the paint here and there. The result is rather charming and authentic. Would make a great coffee table though you might want to remove the wax and oil or varnish it for water resistance. Dimensions: 91cm x 58cm x 54cm high
